I'm letting areas of my garden go wild so the soil stays covered as much as possible to reduce evaporation. I eat mainly plant-based food so almost all of my food waste (what little there is) is composted and reused in the garden.
I take my reusable coffee cup and water bottle with me everywhere and don’t use single use bottles or cups. We need more places to access drinking water in public spaces so all can do this. I also walk or use public transport where possible rather than driving. We need clear, safe paths for walking and a frequent and reliable bus service to make this option feasible for more people.
We're planting trees and hedges to try and mitigate against destruction and loss of habitat caused by release of Green Belt for building. We're also managing grassland to encourage biodiversity.
I don't drive (never owned a car). I can see why it's difficult to not to use a car, though, even when you're going to a local venue. To encourage more people to use public transport, cycle or walk - can all events provide info about the bus / train (not just nearest parking), the nearest cycle rack. Promote how people can access services like Lynx, and who is able to use it? Have a map of cycle routes in NHerts - online, printed.Happy to do these things with the Letchworth Festival this year.
