MET Office search for new storm names

Date

Ever wondered where the UK Storm names come from? Now you can name one!

The Met Office is inviting the public to submit their suggestions for storm names for the upcoming 2025/26 season!

Naming storms is great way to communicate weather to help people stay safe, to be aware of the warnings and take action. With a changing climate, we all need to be prepared and know how to adapt to extreme weather like storms, this is one great way of raising awareness.💨

Whether you want to honour a weather-lover in your family, remember a family pet or get a friend’s name in the headlines, the MET Office welcome submissions from the public to help pull together next year’s list of storm names. You can submit names online, and there’s also the option of adding a reason for the suggestion!

Once all submissions are in, the Met Office will work with Met Éireann and KNMI to determine the definitive list of storm names for the 2025/26 storm season, which will begin in September 2025.⛈️

For more information and to submit your name, head to New storm names - Met Office – submissions should be in before 3rd July 2025.
